Guitar Lessons for Beginners Ages 5&Up
At WOC Academy we offer guitar lessons for beginners. Student is considered a beginner if he/she didn’t have any guitar lessons or had less than 1 year of instructions. We begin guitar lessons at age 5. Our teachers start most of the students on acoustic guitars (just like you see on the picture). For beginners it is also suggested to get softer strings. If student likes the sound of an electric guitar, we can start learning on an electric. Important thing is – the student needs to like the sound that he or she makes, because it will help the practice motivation.
Children 5-12 usually use 3/4 size guitar. After initial lesson your teacher will tell you exact guitar size your child should use. If you are in need of a guitar for left handed student, our teacher will restring it for you complementary. We use Mel Bay guitar book for instructions.
What to expect on your lesson:
WOC guitar lessons for beginners also include variety of technique exercises (for example: “spider”). We teach our students how to read guitar notes. Guitar music is read in treble clef. We also can teach you how to understand guitar tabs or how to play cords without learning reading music if you need to learn a song fast. Furthermore: the best way is to combine all teaching methods above to achieve learning diversity.
Be advised that after several weeks of practicing guitar your fingers will start hurting. The good news that if you work through it for a couple of more weeks your fingers will build guitar calluses. That will take discomfort away.
Our teachers understand that in teaching beginners the most important thing is patience. They have a lot of it. They are also great musicians themselves and have many years of teaching experience. Depending on if our student is a child or an adult we use appropriate methods of guitar instructions. If you are a beginner or never played guitar before: get a good teacher, good guitar book, practice every day and you will achieve great result very fast.
